HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
After falling behind by five early on, the Cougars did their best to narrow the gap, trimming the Husky lead to three as late as 16-13, but the deficit was too much to overcome, as UConn went on to win the opening-set by a score of 25-16.
Set 2
With Houston looking grab a set of its own, the Cougars began the second frame in a five-point hole before calling its first timeout at the 13-8 mark. As UConn stretched its advantage to nine, Houston was able to narrow the gap and force the Huskies to call their first timeout of the match with the 22-16 score in UConn's favor. Following an ace from junior outside hitter Megan Duncan that cut the deficit to five, UConn finished out the set scoring three of the final four points to take a 2-0 match lead at intermission.
Set 3
A tightly contest third frame that saw nine score ties, Houston came out of the locker room showing its grit, taking an 8-5 advantage early on to force a UConn timeout. From there, the score became tied on five separate occasions and the Cougars took their final lead of the set at 21-20, where they narrowly edged out the Huskies for the 25-23 set victory to cause a fourth frame.
Set 4
After the Cougars fell into a four-point deficit to begin the set, Houston climbed itself back into it, having brought the score to within one about midway through the frame. With Houston trailing 10-9, UConn managed to string together nine unanswered points, where the Huskies never looked back in route to their 25-18 set win and 3-1 match victory.
