Houston Takes Hot Start on the Road

GAME NOTES

HOUSTON – With a nation-leading 11 wins on the season, the University of Houston Volleyball team travels to Moon Township, Pa. for the RMU Sheraton Invitational starting Friday.

The two-day event, hosted by Robert Morris, consists of three games for the Cougars, who look to continue their blistering start to the 2018 campaign.

The Cougars enter the weekend with one of the most potent offenses in the nation, ranking inside the top 10 in the nation in kills (589, 6th), assists (553, 6th) and service aces (86, 1st). Houston's 11 wins on the year are also the more than any other team in the country.
Commanding the Cougars' 6-2 offense is the dynamic duo made up of setters Katie Krebs and Abby Irvine. Together, they average 10.68 assists per set, which has guided Houston to average 12.50 helpers per frame.
Houston's defense has also been off to the sweltering hot start to the season, as its 625 digs and 88.0 total blocks are each third-best in The American.
In its first 12 matches of the 2018 campaign, Houston has already garnered its share of All-Tournament honors, racking in a total of seven Cougars being named to All-Tournament squads. Senior setter Katie Krebs and sophomore outside hitter Megan Duncan have earned an MVP accolade, while sophomore outside hitter Faith Squier and freshman middle blocker Kendall Haywood has received an All-Tournament honor twice. Junior libero Katie Karbo rounds out the list of All-Tournament honorees.
With the Cougars suffering their first loss of the season at the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup, Houston's undefeated season came to an end, as its 8-0 record marked the best start to a season since the 1987 year.

UP NEXT
After its time in Pennsylvania, Houston will come back home for the opening of the American Athletic conference play against Temple on Friday, Sept. 21. The Cougars' match with Owls is also slated to the "Turn it Gold" match to raise awareness for pediatric cancer.
