Will serve as Director of Operations for both programs
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball and Soccer programs announced Zach Laffey as their joint Director of Operations on Friday.
In his role, Laffey will assist with the day-to-day operations, travel coordination, and alumni and recruiting databases for both programs. He will also serve as the programs' liaison to the Cougars' support staff.
"Zach stood out in a very competitive pool of candidates," Houston Softball Head Coach Kristin Vesely said. "He has a strong passion for athletics, has a technology background and quality experience in the field – all of which will be utilized and what we were looking for in this position. We are excited to have Zach join our program and our Cougar Family."
"I'm excited to add Zach to our staff," Houston Soccer Head Coach Diego Bocanegra said. "Between his time at Florida and with the Detroit Tigers organization, he brings experience in many facets of the job. I can tell by his eagerness and excitement that Zach has a tremendous desire to grow in his career. I know that enthusiasm will show up on a daily basis and streamline our jobs as a staff."
Laffey comes to Houston after spending almost two years in the Detroit Tigers organization in various operations roles. Most recently, he served as the Director of Video Operations, where he was responsible for designing graphical artwork that was primarily displayed on the video boards. In that same role, he also worked in the ticket office and created unique ticket packages.
Prior to his time with the Tigers, Laffey worked at the University of Florida as an administrative intern, having provided assistance to the administrative department with daily tasks and projects such as NFL Pro Day and special event planning.
Laffey was first involved with college athletics when he volunteered in the communications office at Florida, where he supported the department with statistical inputting and tracking, social media updating and handling postgame media quotes.
A graduate of the Florida, Laffey earned his bachelor's degree in sport management and business management in April 2016. Later that year, he received a master's in management.
