Duncan and Haywood receive honors
NEW ORLEANS – After helping lead the University of Houston Volleyball team to an undefeated, season-opening weekend, junior outside hitter Megan Duncan and freshman middle blocker Kendall Haywood received All-Tournament honors for their performances at the UNO Invitational. On top of her All-Tournament accolade, Duncan was also named the tournament MVP.
Â
Having played in all three of the Cougars' matches as well as every single set, Duncan put together an offensive outpouring in which she recorded 4.27 kills per set to go along with her .288 hitting percentage. As a result, she posted a team-high 53.5 points over the weekend. She also put her defensive skills on display, tallying a total of 21 digs in 11 sets and recording seven blocks as well.
Â
For Haywood, it didn't take long for the rookie to get acclimated to the college game as she found herself right behind Duncan with 35.0 points on the weekend, which was second-best on the Cougars. Haywood quickly became a force to be reckoned with on defense as the 14.0 blocks she posted was more than any one of her teammates. She also showed her efficiency on the offensive side, leading Houston with her .541 hitting percentage.
UP NEXT
The Cougars return to Houston on Aug. 28 as the University of Houston Volleyball team is scheduled to play their home opener against Prairie View A&M. First serve for that match is slated for 7 p.m.
