Cougars drop 2-0 decision to Cardinals
BEAUMONT, Texas – Houston continued it two-match road stand, falling to Lamar in a 2-0 decision Sunday evening at the LU Soccer Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
The Houston Soccer program is excited to celebrate 20 years of Houston soccer this season. The team unveiled a logo on June 14 that represents 20 years of Houston soccer. The logo is featured on one of the three uniforms that the Cougars will wear throughout the season.

Houston will return home for its home opener on Aug. 24 against Prairie View A&M before embarking on a three-match road stand at Incarnate Word (Aug.26), California Baptist (Aug. 31) and UC Riverside (Sept. 2)

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- The Cougars put up a strong defensive effort early when senior goalkeeper Rachel Estopare picked up her first save of the match on a Lamar penalty kick.
- LU would get on the board inside the 19th minute when the Cardinals scored off a header that found its way to the back of the net.
- Lamar would score again in the 82nd minute.
- Houston had its share of scoring opportunities, racking up 17 shots, including seven SOG.
- Desiree Bowen led the Cougars with three shots, each of them on target.
- Natalie Anderson and Lauren Flowers each recorded two shots each, three others cougars recorded one shots apiece.
- Estopare played every minute in-goal for the Cougars and recorded three saves.
- Houston outshot Lamar 17-12 and racked up two more corner kicks than the Cardinals
- Houston is now 0-2-0 on the season
- The all-time series between Houston and Lamar is now 0-1-1
- This is the second consecutive game that Houston has outshot its opponents
