D’Eriq King Named to Earl Campbell Award Watch List

Junior quarterback is second among returning QBs in The American in scoring
HOUSTON – Houston quarterback D'Eriq King has been named to the preseason watch list for the Earl Campbell Award, The Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce and SPORTyler announced Tuesday.
King, who took over as Houston's starting quarterback in the final four games of 2017, will look to become the second Houston quarterback to win the award after Greg Ward Jr., now a member of the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, won the award in 2015.
King is second among returning quarterbacks in The American in scoring and is Houston's leading returning passer and receiver.

The Earl Campbell Award recognizes the top offensive player in FBS football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year college.

Took over as Houston's starting QB in the final four games of 2017 … is second among returning QBs in The American in scoring …finished the year 11th in The American in total offense with an average of 163.9 yards per game … threw for 1,260 yards and seven TDs on 90-of-139 passing with only two interceptions … ran 72 times for 379 yards and eight TDs … prior to taking QB reins, also saw time at receiver and is actually Houston's leading returning receiver with 29 receptions for 264 yards and two TDs.
