HOUSTON -- Rising sophomore Quivell Jordan wrapped competition at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships in the semifinal round of the 400-meter hurdles, on Friday in Tampere, Finland.
2018 IAAF U20 CHAMPIONSHIPS
Jordan's heat would prove to be the fastest of the semifinal round, where five of the competition's top-6 times crossed the line. Jordan would complete the one-lap hurdle race in 50.86 to finish fifth in the heat and post the sixth-fastest time of the semifinal round.
Despite having the sixth-fastest time, Jordan was not one of the eight qualifiers to reach Saturday's final due to qualification rules set in place before the beginning of the event. The top two qualifiers from each heat earn automatic qualifying positions, while the next two fastest times also overall booked finals berths.
Jordan began competition at the U20 Championships on Thursday in the preliminary round of the 400-meter hurdles. Running in the third heat, Jordan crossed the finish line in 51.75 to finish third in his race and earn an automatic-qualifying position in the semifinals.
