HOUSTON â€" Houston Cougar Track & Field sprinter Elijah Hall continues to remain on the The Bowerman Watch List after the USTFCCCA office announced that he has made the Post-Conference Championship edition of the list on Thursday.
The Bowerman, NCAA Track & Field's most prestigious award, is granted to the top men's and women's track & field athlete in a given year. The Bowerman watch list is updated throughout the season to reflect athletes' performances from week to week. Hall has landed on each of the previous watch lists for the Post-Indoor and Mid-Outdoor earlier this season.
Hall found himself on the watch post-indoor watch list on March 15 after one of the most successful sprint campaigns in NCAA Indoor Championship history. The Katy, Texas, native opened the championships with Houston's first-ever NCAA Championship in the 60-meter dash, running the program's second-fastest time at 6.52.
The senior had one more historic run to make in the finals of the 200-meter dash later in the afternoon. After exploding out of the blocks, Hall cruised one-lap around the track in 20.02 to clock the second-fastest time in world history in the indoor 200. Hall's time broke Wallace Spearmon's 13-year old mark of 20.10 and set new American, Collegiate and NCAA Championship records in the process.
Hall earned First-Team All-America honors for each event, becoming the ninth Cougar to claim the award in the 60 and just the second to claim the award in the 200. Hall scored 20 points for the Cougars in the championship meet, which would have placed him 10th overall in the team standings by himself.
Hall has carried his success into the outdoor slate, where he currently holds the fourth-fastest time in the NCAA in the 200-meter dash as well as the 37th-best mark in the 100-meter dash. Hall ran 20.11 at the Texas Relays to set his 200 mark, while posting a season-best 10.23 in the 100 at The American Championships.
Hall will compete for the Cougars in each of the 100 and 200, as well as the 4x100-meter relay, at the NCAA West Regional May 24-26.
