Houston Opens Competition at Penn Relays

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Cougar Women's Track & Field team opened competition at the historic Penn Relays for the first of three days of competition. The Men's team will join the action on Friday in Philadelphia.
ABOUT THE PENN RELAYS
Friday sees the men hit the track for the first time, however the action begins with the women's triple jump at 10 a.m. The second day will conclude with the prelims of the men's 4x400 relay at 3:15 p.m. CT.
Saturday will consist of finals action throughout the day. If the Cougars qualify for the finals of the 4x100-meter relay, action will kick off at 12:32 p.m. CT, while the conclusion of the Penn Relays will be at 4:55 p.m., with the finals of the men's 4x400.

ABOUT THE LSU INVITATIONAL
The LSU Invitational will be held on Saturday, April 28. The meet begins in the field with the women's discus at 9:30 a.m. Running events will kick off with the women's 5,000-meter run at 11:20 a.m., with the meet set to wrap up at 2:20 p.m. with the men's 4x400-meter relay.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening day of the Penn Relays saw the Cougars compete in just one event on the track, opening the meet with the 4x100-meter relay. The Cougars raced around the track in 45.29 to win Heat 6 and punch their ticket to the Penn Relays Championship Invite finals on Friday with the sixth-fastest time overall.
The Penn Relays 4x100-meter Relay Championship of America is scheduled for 11:55 a.m.
In the field, Samiyah Samuels opened competition for the Cougars at Penn. The sophomore used her second attempt of the afternoon to jump 20-5.75 (6.24m) to claim fourth in the College Women's Long Jump Championship.
Taylor Scaife picked up a top-10 finish for the Cougars in the throws. Scaife finished sixth in the College Women's Hammer Throw Championship with a top mark of 195-1 (59.48m).
Nora Monie also took home a sixth-place finish with her top mark in the women's shot put college division. Monie's best throw of the day traveled 49-2.75 (15.01m).
