Houston Falls in 4-3 Heartbreaker at Rice

HOUSTON -- The Houston offense tallied 10 hits and the bullpen didn't surrender a hit, but it wasn't enough as Rice took advantage of seven free passes en route to a 4-3 win over the Cougars at Reckling Park in Game 1 of the Silver Glove Series on Tuesday.
Houston's eight-game win streak was snapped as it fell to 16-9 on the year, while Rice improved to 11-16.
HOUSTON HITS
- Jared Triolo has reached base in 24 straight games.

Houston out hit Rice, 10-5. Joe Davis led the Houston offense with two hits and two RBI, while Cooper Coldiron had a two-hit night with one RBI and Tyler Bielamowicz and Connor Hollis added a pair of hits.

Houston starter Brayson Hurdsman tossed 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts, but would suffer the loss, falling to 1-4 on the year.
Senior Kyle Ott retired one hitter and allowed two walks with one strikeout, before handing the ball over to freshman Clay Aguilar, who tossed a career-long relief outing of 3.1 innings, striking out a career-high six without allowing a hit or run with just one walk.
KEY INNINGS
2nd | Houston jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a Cooper Coldiron RBI-single, scoring Lael Lockhart Jr., who opened the frame with a walk, moved to second on a Jared Triolo single and to third on a sac bunt by Landon Etzel.
Rice responded with a run of its own in the latter half of the frame, tallying a two-hit inning, highlighted by an RBI-single into left field.
3rd | The Cougars retook the lead (2-1) in the third on a Joe Davis' RBI-single up the middle, plating Grayson Padgett, who reached on a throwing error by the Rice shortstop.
5th | Rice scored three runs in the fifth on just two hits, but two costly wild pitches, allowed the Owls to take their first lead of the game at 4-2.
7th | Houston trimmed Rice's lead by a run (4-3) when Davis drove in his second RBI of the game, plating Tyler Bielamowicz, who opened the frame with a single.
