Houston Earns Shutout Win Behind CG, HR

HOUSTON -- Houston Baseball opened American Athletic Conference play with a 2-0 shutout win over Memphis behind Trey Cumbie's complete game shutout and Jared Triolo's two-run home run on Friday evening at Schroeder Park.
The win lifted Houston to a 14-8 overall record and a 1-0 start in league play, while the Tigers fell to 8-14 and 0-1. The Cougars have now won six straight games and are 12-3 at home this season.

- Jared Triolo has reached base in 21 straight games.
- Triolo belted his first home run of the year and third of his career.
- Joe Davis has reached in 19 straight games and has a hit in 12 straight.
- Trey Cumbie notched his second straight complete game shutout and his sixth career CG.

Jared Triolo led the Houston offense with two of the Cougars' six hits, highlighted by his first home run of the year, which proved to be the difference-maker on the scoreboard. Lael Lockhart Jr. scored the first run of the game and had a hit, while Joe Davis doubled and Connor Hollis and Landon Etzel each singled.
PITCHING BREAKDOWN

Houston starter Trey Cumbie was lights out once again as he notched his second straight complete game shutout (last coming vs. New Mexico on March 16). Cumbie allowed just three hits and one walk and totaled six innings of 1-2-3 baseball.
The Lufkin, Texas native improved to 2-1 on the year and upped his strikeout total to 51 through six starts.
KEY INNINGS
4th | Jared Triolo put Houston on the board first with a two-run home run to left field in the fourth inning, plating Lael Lockhart Jr., who led off the inning with a single into left.
The two runs proved to be enough for the Cougars as Cumbie shut the Tigers down.

Houston and Memphis will continue its three-game series at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and wrap at 1 p.m. Sunday.
