CYPRESS, Texas â€" University of Houston junior Tatiana Pineda fired a 74 for the third straight round to finish with a score of 222 and tie for third at the HBU Husky Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at BlackHorse Golf Club.
Starting her day on No. 18 on the 6,247-yard, par-72 course, Pineda birdied two of her first six holes and added her third and final birdie of the tournament on the par-4 15th hole to earn a career-best finish. She topped her previous best finish of 19th at the HBY Husky Invitational (March 30-31, 2015) and at the UNC Collegiate (March 9-10, 2015).
Senior Kelli Rollo and junior Maddy Rayner each tied for ninth with scores of 231. Freshman Yukie Sasaki was forced to withdraw from Tuesday's round.
Houston Baptist and Lamar tied for the team low score in the tournament at 912 with the Cardinals capturing the title based on the lower fifth-woman score.
Sam Houston State finished third at 920, while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi placed fourth at 939.
Sam Houston State's Hannah Alberto earned medalist honors with a score of 3-under 213 to finish eight strokes ahead of Houston Baptist's Sara Zrnikova.
UP NEXT
Following the HBU Husky Invitational, the Cougars will compete at the LSU Tiger Classic on March 23-25 at University Club in Baton Rouge, La.
From there, the team will close out the regular season when it tees off at the Bruzzy Challenge on April 2-3 at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas.
