OAHU, Hawai'i â€" The University of Houston Women's Golf program fired the second-lowest round of the day to finish third with a score of 913 on the final day of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on Wednesday afternoon
The Cougars, who stand at No. 24 in the latest Golfstat, posted a score of 296 in Wednesday's Final Round, trailing only the 294 by eventual champion No. 6 Texas, on the 6,096-yard, par-72 course at Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Club. It was the second straight round in which the Cougars lowered their score by at least seven strokes.
Texas won the team championship with a score, while No. 17 Oklahoma State finished second at 907. Following the Cougars, No. 31 Texas A&M (923), Colorado State (930), Washington State (933), Osaka Gakuin (933), Hawai'i (936), No. 43 Pepperdine (937) and UTEP (938) rounded out the top-10.
Senior Megan Thothong fired a 1-under 71 on Wednesday to lead the Cougars. Starting her day on No. 2 with a bogey, the Dallas native moved back to even par with a birdie on No. 4 and then drained two birdies in a 2-hole stretch on Nos. 13-15.
Thothong moved into eighth with a 54-hole score of 225 for her fourth top-20 finish of the season.
Senior Allie Andersen continued her stellar play of late and finished with a score of 224 to tie for sixth, her second-straight top-10 showing. The Woodlands, Texas, native was a steady performer for the Cougars, draining a birdie on the 370-yard, par-4 eighth hole with only a pair of bogeys.
Junior Leonie Harm sank a pair of birdies in her final round on the way to an even-par 72 and tied for 20th at 230. The Gerlingen, Germany native has finished among the top-20 leaders in in all but one tournament this season.
Senior Courtney Tibiletti tied for 30th at 234, while sophomore Amanda Elich tied for 62nd at 252.
Texas' Kaitlyn Papp posted a 68 in the Final Round to earn medalist honors at 3-under 213 and finish four strokes ahead of Texas A&M's Maddie Szeryk. Texas' Emilee Hoffman finished third at 221.
UP NEXT
Following the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational will compete at the HBU Husky Invitational on March 19-20 at BlackHorse Golf Club in Cypress, Texas.
From there, the team will compete at the LSU Tiger Classic on March 23-25 at University Club in Baton Rouge, La.
