Houston Walks Off to Win Weekend Series

HOUSTON -- Houston Baseball senior Cooper Coldiron belted the game-tying home run in the eighth and registered the walk off RBI-single in the 10th to highlight a 3-2 victory over Holy Cross Sunday in the Opening Weekend series finale at Schroeder Park.
With the win, the Cougars move to 2-1 on the year, while the Crusaders fell to 1-2. Houston completes another Opening Weekend and up its record in those games to 22-2 all-time under head coach Todd Whitting.
HOUSTON HITS
- Junior Ryan Randel made his first career start for Houston. He tossed 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with no walks and eight strikeouts.
- Cooper Coldiron belted his first career home run as a Cougar.
- Houston improved to 1-0 in extra inning games this season.
- Dating back to the 2017 season, Coldiron has now reached base in 12 straight games.
- Landon Etzel had a leadoff single (and later scored) in the 10th to spark the game-winning RBI.
- Kyle Ott earned his first win as a Cougar as he was the pitcher of record, striking out the side in the top of the 10th.
- Houston pitching struck out 15 Crusaders on Sunday to up its weekend total to 46 in three games.
- 20 Cougars saw action in Sunday's win.

Landon Etzel, off the bench, tallied two hits, while Cooper Coldiron was red-hot, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run.

Ryan Randel, in his Houston debut, tossed a gem, allowing just two runs on four hits with no walks and eight strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.
The California native handed the ball to teammate Fred Villarreal, who pitched 2.1 shutout frames with two strikeouts.
Sophomore Carter Henry returned for his second appearance out of the bullpen this weekend, fanning two in 1.0 inning of work before handing it over to senior graduate transfer Kyle Ott, who struck out the side in his Houston debut, sending the Cougars to bat with the chance to win in the 10th.
KEY INNINGS
2nd | Houston jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Ron Brown scored on a fielding error by the Holy Cross third baseman. Brown led off the inning with his first career single.
4th | Holy Cross led off the fourth with a hit-by-pitch and following two strikeouts, the Crusaders used a two-run home run to take a 2-1 lead over the Cougars.
8th | Cooper Coldiron tied the game with a 1-out solo home run to left field in the eighth inning.
10th | Landon Etzel led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Bielamowicz. Charlie Bartlett, in his first Houston at-bat, walked, giving way to Coldiron, who crushed a ball through the left side, plating Etzel from second base for the walk off winner.
ON DECK
Houston will hit the road for the next four games, beginning with a midweek tilt at Sam Houston State -- Game 1 of the Don Sanders Cup on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The Cougars will travel then to Fullerton, Calif. to take on 2017 College World Series opponent, Cal State Fullerton in a three-game series.
