Houston Baseball opens its 2018 season with a weekend series against Holy Cross ... Reigning American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year and All-American Trey Cumbie was named to the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List on Friday ... In 2017, Cumbie led The American with a 2.04 ERA and a 10-2 record in 15 starts ... Cumbie fanned 82 in 101.1 innings with four complete games ... On Monday, junior Aaron Fletcher was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List, honoring the nation's top relief pitcher ... In 2017, Fletcher led the team in appearances (21) and saves (8) ... Fletcher also led all bullpen pitchers with a 2.40 ERA and was 2-1 with 41 strikeouts in 41.1 innings.

Houston Men's Basketball fans planning to attend Thursday's game against No. 5/5 Cincinnati are encouraged to arrive early and take advantage of the FREE parking shuttle ... The shuttle service begins at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, in Lot 12A near Gate 3 of TDECU Stadium ... Against SMU, the Cougars rallied late, closing the game on a 17-1 run over the final six minutes, to take a 67-58 win ... Sophomore guard Armoni Brooks led all players with 23 points and 10 rebounds for the first double-double of his career ... After being held scoreless in the first half, senior guard Rob Gray posted 15 points in the final 20 minutes and added a game-high seven assists ... Junior guard Corey Davis Jr. finished with 10 points, six rebounds and four assists ... With two treys, Davis Jr. recorded his 19th straight game with at least one trey, breaking a tie with current Cleveland Cavaliers Assistant Coach Damon Jones for the 10th-longest streak in Houston single-season history ... Against Tulane, senior forward Devin Davis led all players with 16 points, while Brooks posted his second straight double-double with 11 points and team-high 11 rebounds ... Gray added eight points with three assists and became the leading scorer in American Athletic Conference history with 1,463 points, surpassing SMU guard Nic Moore's 1,462 points ... For his efforts, Brooks was named The American Player of the Week.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Houston Women's Basketball went 1-1 last week, defeating Memphis, 66-55, on Wednesday, before falling 83-77 at Tulsa on Saturday. With the split, Houston moves to 19-7 overall and 8-4 in American Athletic Conference play.

Against Memphis, Houston rallied from an eight-point deficit for a 66-55 win ... The Cougars finished with two players in double figures, including a game-high 24 points from sophomore Jasmyne Harris... Sophomore Angela Harris finished the contest with 19 points, while junior Serithia Hawkins paced the team on the glass with eight rebounds ... At Tulsa, Angela Harris finished with a career-high 26 points ... Jasmyne Harris finished the game with 15 points, while Hawkins tallied her sixth double-double of the season and 16th of her career with 14 points and 13 rebounds ... For her efforts, Angela Harris was named to The American Weekly Honor Roll.

Thanks to the generosity of Cougar Pride members, three new privately funded facility updates are underway as Houston Athletics facilities continue to reach Tier One levels ... Construction on the Dominic & Ellen Ng Academic Center for Excellence, Cougar Den (a new student-athlete dining area and lounge) and the conversion of an outdoor football practice field from turf to natural grass are currently in progress ... Houston Men's Golf opens its spring season with its own All-American Intercollegiate starting Friday ... Participating teams are Auburn, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Georgia State, Lamar, McNeese, Mississippi, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, SMU, South Alabama, South Carolina, Southeastern Louisiana, UTSA, Wake Forest ... The tournament marks the Cougars' first since the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic in Hawai'i in November.

Houston Women's Golf opens its spring season with the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in New Orleans ... The tournament marks the Cougars' first since The Battle at the Beach in early November ... Junior Leonie Harm was listed among collegiate golf's top international players as the first Spring rankings of the Arnold Palmer Cup ... After standing at No. 6 in the final Fall rankings, Harm moved to No. 4 on Team International with a .9883 percentile score in the first Spring rankings of the season.

Houston Softball opened the 2018 season with a 4-1 win over Texas Tech, before falling in a 5-4 heartbreaker to No. 6/9 Texas A&M on Friday ... On Saturday, the Cougars defeated Boston College, 5-4, in walkoff fashion before closing the night with an 8-2 win over Texas Tech ... Due to frigid conditions, the Sunday games of the tournament were cancelled ... Senior shortstop Mariah Garcia led the Cougars with .636/1.182/.714 slash, going 7-for-11 with a double, triple, home run, seven RBI and four runs scored across the tournament ... The Austin native recorded at least one hit in all four games, including a 3-for-4 night against Texas Tech on Saturday ... The three-hit game is also a career high ... For her efforts, Garcia was named The American Player of the Week ... The honor is the first of her career and the first for the Cougars on the season ... Houston's participation in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge marks the program's first international trip in program history.

Against Nevada, the tandems of Lauren Alter and Alison Mills, and Constanden Nicolaou and Ana Glumac secured the doubles point with 6-1 and 7-5 victories ... In singles, Sveva Mazzari, Alter and Nicolaou all won to seal the match ... At Arizona, Houston swept the double point and Mazzari, Tsveta Dimitrova, Alter, Nicolaou and Glumac all recorded victories in singles to hand the Wildcats their first lost of the season.

At the Tyson Invitational, Elijah Hall won the 60-meter dash in 6.58, a mark that ranks as the the second-fastest time in program history and No. 3 on the NCAA list this season ... Amere Lattin took silver in the 60-meter hurdles in 7.79 ... Kahmari Montgomery closed out the first day with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash, running 46.00, a mark that is the second-fastest time in program history and stands at No. 4 in the NCAA this season ... Meredith Sorensen took second in the mile in 5:06.36, while Cameron Laverty took second in the 800-meter run in 1:52.93 ... On the second day, Hall won the 200-meter dash in 20.52, just one one-hundredth of a second off his school-record mark ... Hall also helped the Cougars close the meet with a program record in the 4x400-meter relay ... The team of Lattin, Hall, Mario Burke and Montgomery finished the eight-lap relay in 3:04.18, a mark that ranks No. 4 in the NCAA, and tops the program's previous mark set by Lattin, Burke, Quivell Jordan and Montgomery earlier this year at the Mark Collegian Memorial ... With the XXIII Winter Olympic Games getting underway in Pyeongchang, South Korea, two of Houston's all-time great Track & Field alumni, Seun Adigun and Ngozi Onwumere, are set to make history as the first winter Olympians from the University of Houston ... The duo, alongside teammate Akuoma Omeoga, have already placed their name in the history books, after they became the first-ever delegation of Nigerian athletes to qualify for the Olympic Winter Games, and the first bobsled athletes from any African nation to reach the Olympiad ... Training for the women's bobsled at the Pyeongchang Olympics is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. CST, on Saturday, Feb. 17 ... The team will run through two training sessions each day across Feb. 17-19, before competition begins with the first of two heats on Tuesday, Feb. 20 ... The final two heats of the women's bobsled will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 21, beginning at 5:40 a.m. CST.
