HOUSTON – With over 17 years of business partnership and sales experience, Zach Daniel was named General Manager of Houston Sports Properties, the sponsorship arm of Houston Athletics on Monday.
"Zach brings a wealth of experience generating revenue at every stop in his career," Chief Revenue Officer Alvin Franklin said. "Zach will be a great addition to our team as we continue to expand our sponsorship portfolio very aggressively."
Daniel, who arrives at Houston following eight years as Director of Business Development at Texas Tech, helped increase sponsorship revenues for the Red Raiders by 55% since 2020.
"We are excited to add Zach to our team and to have him lead our Houston Cougar Sports Properties group," Vice President for Athletics Eddie Nuñez said. "As we have placed a large emphasis on growing our revenues, our Sports Properties group will continue to be vital in helping me reach new businesses and valued partners. Zach's experience in both in sponsorships and in ticket sales across multiple levels of collegiate and professional sports made him a value addition to our team as we venture to do that across the City of Houston, state and nation."
Prior to his time in Lubbock, Daniel increased total sponsorships by 51% at Stephen F. Austin spending two years as General Manager for the Lumberjacks Sports Properties department and total revenues by 26% in his first year in Nacogdoches, Texas.
"I am excited to join the Houston Athletics team and am thankful to Vice President for Athletics Eddie Nuñez, Senior Deputy Athletics Director Dave Williams and Chief Revenue Officer Alvin Franklin for the opportunity," Daniel said. "Houston is one of the fastest growing brands in college athletics and I am thrilled to help continue the departments climb. I look forward to building innovative and sustainable partnerships that generate revenue for Houston, its student-athletes, and its brand partners. I started my career here in Houston, so a return to this great City is something my family and I am excited for."
Daniel is no stranger to the Houston-metro area. He spent five years with the Houston Aeros in sales and community programming from 2007-2011 before transitioning to ticket sales and then corporate sponsorships at Sam Houston from 2011-14. During his time with the Bearkats, Daniel helped Sam Houston raise gross revenue from sponsorships by 40%.
A two-time graduate from Texas Tech, Daniel graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health, Exercise and Sport Sciences in 2004 and a Master of Science in Sport Management in 2007.
Houston Sports Properties is one of the revenue generating arms of Houston Athletics working directly with corporate sponsorships and NIL opportunities for Cougar student-athletes.
