Cougars move to No. 20 in latest USA TODAY Coaches’ poll, stand at No. 21 in Associated Press poll
HOUSTON – With a 10-0 record and 23 straight home wins, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program rose higher in both national polls, released Monday.The Cougars, who are coming off a pair of tough home wins over LSU and Saint Louis last week, collected 168 points to move to No. 20 in the USA TODAY Coaches' poll and earned 266 points to rise to No. 21 in the latest Associated Press Poll.
Houston entered the Top-25 rankings for the first time this season last week. This is the first time the Cougars have been ranked at any point in a season in consecutive years since 1983-84.
Winners of their first 10 games to open the season under 2018 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Kelvin Sampson, the 2018-19 Cougars became only the second team in University of Houston history to accomplish that feat, joining the 1967-68 squad.
With 23 consecutive home wins, the Cougars also own the nation's second-longest active home winning streak.
UP NEXT
• The Cougars continue their season-long, seven-game homestand when they play host to Utah State at 7 p.m., Thursday, inside the beautiful Fertitta Center.
• From there, the homestand continues against Coppin State (3 p.m., Dec. 23); NJIT (3 p.m., Dec. 29), Tulsa (7 p.m., Jan. 2) and Memphis (5 p.m., Jan. 6).
