Forward Cedrick Alley Jr. named Freshman of the Week, senior guard Corey Davis Jr. named to Honor Roll
HOUSTON – After leading the Cougars to a pair of wins and a tournament championship, University of Houston freshman forward Cedrick Alley Jr., and senior guard Corey Davis Jr., were honored Monday by the American Athletic Conference.
Alley was recognized as the league's Freshman of the Week, while Davis was chosen as a member of the Honor Roll. Houston was the only team to enjoy two honorees this week. It was the first weekly award of Alley's career, while Davis was named to the Honor Roll for the third time during his career but first this season.
Alley averaged 12.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in wins against Northwestern State and at BYU last week. The Houston native scored five points and tied for team-high honors with eight rebounds, including four offensive against the Demons.
The Klein Forest High School product flirted with a triple-double with a career-high 19 points, six rebounds and another career-high six assists in the Men Again Breast Cancer Cougar Cup title game at BYU on Saturday. For his impressive performance, he was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Davis led the Cougars with 18.5 points per game last week and finished second on the team with 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals per contest. The Lafayette, La., native came off the bench to score 13 points with three 3-pointers in the win against Northwestern State.
In the championship game at BYU, Davis posted a career-high with 24 points and added three rebounds and four assists. After BYU moved to within 65-55 with 5:23 remaining, Davis scored Houston's last nine points in an 11-0 run that sealed the win.
Cincinnati's Jarron Cumberland was named the league's Player of the Week. Jalen Adams (UConn), Jayden Gardner (ECU), Jahmal McMurray (SMU) and Nate Pierre-Louis (Temple) joined Davis on the Honor Roll.
