HOUSTON – Winners of its first two games to open the season, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program wraps up its home schedule in the Men against Breast Cancer Cougar Cup when it takes on Northwestern State at 7 p.m., Monday, inside H&PE Arena in a game presented by Maintenance Supply Headquarters.
The Cougars enter Monday's game following a 79-68 win over Rice on Wednesday inside H&PE Arena. Houston built as much as an 18-point lead in the second half against the Owls and cruised to their fifth straight win against the Owls in the first meeting since 2015.
With that victory, Houston recorded its 17 straight home victory in H&PE Arena after going 15-0 there in 2017-18. That ties with Montana and trails only South Dakota State (23) and Charleston (18) as the nation's third-longest active home winning streak.
For the second straight game, junior guard Armoni Brooks and 2018 American Athletic Conference Sixth Man of the Year Armoni Brooks led the Cougars in scoring with 20 points against the Owls. The Round Rock, Texas, native ranks second in the league with 22.0 points per game.
Senior and 2018 Preseason American Athletic Conference Team member Corey Davis Jr. added 18 points against Rice and has buried at least one 3-pointer in 32 of the last 33 games. His streak of 29 straight games a year ago ranks as the second longest in Houston history.
Senior guard Galen Robinson Jr. added 15 points and tied with Davis for team-high honors with six assists. With his assist total, Robinson moved past Rob Williams into sixth in Houston career history with 410 assists.
