Award-winning Red Oak High School guard will compete as a freshman in 2019-20
HOUSTON – Red Oak High School guard Marcus Sasser has joined the University of Houston Men's Basketball program after recently signing a National Letter of Intent.
Sasser, who checks in at 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds, will compete as a freshman with the Cougars in 2019-20 with four years of eligibility.
"Marcus is probably the perfect definition of a combo guard. Because he shoots the ball so well, he can play with a point guard, or he can be the point guard. He is a tough, tough kid and knows how to play," Head Coach Kelvin Sampson said. "He creates shots for others. He can play off the ball screen and play off the bounce. Marcus is just a really good guard."
Sasser, who also was recruited by SMU and Colorado State, was ranked as s three-star recruit by 247Sports and Rivals. As a junior during the 20127-18 season, he was recognized as the District 10-5A Newcomer of the Year.
At Red Oak High School, he competed for his uncle, Jason Sasser, who was the 1996 Southwest Conference Player of the Year and a 2017 inductee into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame.
"Marcus is a diamond in the rough. He has all the necessary skills and is going to be a highly successful player," Sasser said. "Away from the court, Marcus is a laid back guy, but once he gets on the court, he is very aggressive."
Sasser became the second member of the Cougars' fall signing class, joining Shoemaker High School forward J'Wan Roberts.
