Four-star recruit will join Cougars at semester break in January 2019
HOUSTON – Guard Caleb Mills will join the University of Houston Men's Basketball program in 2019-20 after recently signing a National Letter of Intent.
Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 170 pounds, Mills will begin classes at Houston after the semester break in January.
Mills will practice daily with the Cougars in 2018-19 but will sit out of competition as a redshirt. He will have four years of eligibility remaining with the start of the 2019-20 season.
"I don't like making bold statements, but I can safely say that Caleb is the best offensive player I have recruited since I have been at Houston. He can really score in a myriad of ways," Head Coach Kelvin Sampson said. "You want the ball in Caleb's hands at the end of the game."
Mills, who was recruited by Marquette, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Wake Forest, Clemson, Florida State and Georgia Tech, was listed as a four-star recruit by 247Sports and a three-star athlete by Rivals after competing at Asheville Christian Academy for Head Coach Andy Ray.
As a junior in 2017-18, he was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after averaging 25.3 points per game in three contests during an international tour to Spain's Canary Islands. He was recognized as a member of the All-Southeast Super Region Team.
"Caleb is a great competitor and loves the game. He is a multi-dimensional offensive player and brings excitement and enthusiasm," Ray said. "Off the court, he is very even-keeled. You know exactly who Caleb is all the time."
Mills became the final member of the Cougars' fall signing class, joining Red Oak High School guard Marcus Sasser and Shoemaker High School forward J'Wan Roberts.
