Houston Takes Three Matches at River Oaks

Cougars win trio of singles matches
HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Women's Tennis team picked up three singles wins on the second day of the River Oaks Invitational, on Saturday at River Oaks Country Club.
Action on day two began with doubles play, where each of Houston's three teams returned to action. The Cougars dropped each of their matches 6-2 with Sophie Gerits and Phonexay Chitdara falling to Priya Niezgoda and Victoria Smirnova (Rice), while Ndindi Ndunda and Elena Tairyan dropped their match to Bianca Moldovan and Liz Norman (North Carolina State) and Stephanie Belovukovic and Constandena Nicolaou fell to Vivienne Kulicke and Sarai Monarrez-Yesaki (SMU).
The Cougars won three matches in singles play, including Ndunda, who won her team-leading eighth match of fall play. Ndunda defeated Monarrez Yesaki of SMU in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.
Chitdara also picked up a win against a Mustang, winning a 3-set match against Tiffany Hollebeck. Chitdara won the first set 6-2, before Hollebeck responded to take the second set 6-4. Chitdara left no doubt in the final set however, rolling to a 6-0 decision.
Belovukovic tabbed Houston's final win of the second day, when she defeated Monarrez Yesaki (SMU) in straight sets. Belovukovic dropped just two games in the match, winning each set 6-1.
Tairyan dropped her singles match to Nicole Petchey (SMU) 6-3, 7-5, while Nicolaou fell to Amanda Rebol (North Carolina State) 6-4, 6-3.
SUNDAY'S SCHEDULE
The final day of action begins at 9 a.m., and will consist of one round of singles play.

Ndunda vs. Norman (North Carolina State) – Court 2
Tairyan vs. Nikolopoulou (North Carolina State) – Court 3
Nicolaou vs. Buss (SMU) – Court 7
