Houston Drops Regular-Season Finale to RV/-- SMU

Cougars closeout regular-season with 3-0 loss to visiting Mustangs
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Soccer team fell short in its regular-season finale, dropping a 3-0 match to conference foe SMU on Friday evening at the Carl Lewis Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
The Houston Soccer program is excited to celebrate 20 years of Houston soccer this season. The team unveiled a logo on June 14 that represents 20 years of Houston soccer. The logo is featured on one of the three uniforms that the Cougars will wear throughout the season.

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- The Cougars played sound defense early on, knocking away seven shots from the Mustangs before SMU scored inside the 30th minute.
- SMU would close out the first half with a goal inside the 43rd minute to head into the break with a 2-0 lead.
- Houston had it chances in the first period, recording seven first half shots.
- SMU scored early in the second half, taking a 2-0 lead inside the 43rd minute. The Mustangs would score their final goal at the tail end of the 55th minute.
- Houston recorded nine second half shots and seven total shots on goal.
- Mia Brascia led the Cougars with five shots, three of which were on target.
- Rachel Estopare played 90 minutes in goal for the Cougars, recording a season-high eight saves.
- Houston drops to 7-10-2 overall and 3-5-1 in the American Athletic Conference
- Desiree Bowen is tied for seventh all-time in points with 36 for her career. She is also fourth all-time in goals with 18.
- Brascia is tied for ninth all-time in assist with eight and is the leader in single-season assist at Houston.
- Estopare has 207 saves for her career and is third all-time at Houston in the category.
