- As one of the two commanders of Houston's 6-2 offense, sophomore setter Abby Irvine has been on a tear as of late, recording a double-double in all but one match in the American and four in her past six matches. In her past six matches, Irvine has led the team with 5.26 assists per set while ranking second with 2.43 digs per frame. Last weekend against SMU, Irvine fell one assist short of tying her-career, finishing the match with 34 helpers.
- Against SMU, sophomore outside hitter Silvia Pertens recorded a standout performance in which she tied a career-high with her 14 kills, while falling one dig short of the first double-double of her career.
- Much of Houston's success this season has been attributed to the balanced attack the Cougars have received from a number of players. With 19 total double-doubles this season, four different Cougars have recorded double-doubles, with at least one player reaching that mark in seven of the past eight overall, including all but one conference match. Overall, Houston has had multiple players record a double-double in the same match five times this season.
- To begin the 2018 campaign, the Cougars put together one of their best starts in program history, finishing non-conference play with a 13-2 record. Houston's undefeated, 8-0, record to start the season was also a feat that hadn't been accomplished since the 1987 year.
- During that 15-game stretch, Houston garnered its share of All-Tournament honors, racking in a total of eight All-Tournament accolades during non-conference action. Senior setter Katie Krebs and junior outside hitter Megan Duncan earned MVP honors, while junior libero Katie Karbo, junior outside hitter Faith Squier and Haywood each found a spot on an All-Tournament twice.
Following its matches with Memphis and Tulane, Houston will return to the Athletics/Alumni Center on Friday, Oct. 19, as the Cougars play host to Tulsa.
