HOUSTON â€" After posting 16 points with a game-high 11 rebounds in Sunday's win over USF, University of Houston freshman forward Fabian White Jr. was honored Monday as the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.
It was the second time White received the league's weekly award. He first picked up the honor on Nov. 27, 2017.
White earned his latest award after leading the Cougars to their 10th straight home win inside H&PE Arena this season. The Atascocita, Texas, native drained 7-of-10 shots from the field and both free throw attempts for third double-digit scoring performance of the year.
White also snared 11 rebounds, including four off the offensive glass, to go with an assist, block and steal. He played a key role in the Cougars' holding the Bulls to only 40 points, the fewest points since by a Houston opponent since the 1986-87 season.
He became only the sixth freshman in Houston history to record multiple double-doubles in a single season and the first since forward TaShawn Thomas finished with nine during the 2011-12 season.
White is currently averaging 6.0 points and 4.4 rebounds per game and tops the Cougars with 1.2 blocks per game
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE HONOR ROLL
Houston teammate Corey Davis Jr. also was named to the league's weekly Honor Roll on Monday. Davis led all players with 17 points, thanks to 6-of-9 shooting from the field, including 4-of-5 from behind the arc.
The Lafayette, La., native has drained at least one 3-pointer in each of the last 16 games and ranks second among the Cougars with 12.5 points per game.
Davis was joined on the Honor Roll by Shaquille Morris (Wichita State), Stephan Jiggetts (USF), Corey Henderson Jr. (Tulsa) and Jimmy Whitt (SMU).
