HOUSTON â€" As the University of Houston Men's Basketball program prepares to host No. 7/4 Wichita State this weekend, fans are asked to be prepared and aware of measures Houston Athletics has taken to maximize fan experience.
The Cougars tip off against the Shockers at 11 a.m., Saturday, inside H&PE Arena on the campus of Texas Southern University as $60-million renovations continue at the Fertitta Center. With a large crowd expected, fans are strongly encouraged to arrive early with arena doors opening at 9:30 a.m., Saturday.
TICKETS
Tickets for Saturday's game remain available but fans should purchase their tickets soon. Fans can purchase tickets online by clicking here until 11:59 p.m., Friday, and avoid waiting in an outside line.
On Saturday, tickets can only be purchased at the H&PE Arena Box Office, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
PROMOTIONS
The first 500 fans through the doors receive a FREE Game of the Century commemorative towel.
PARKING
Houston Men's Basketball season-ticket holders were sent an email Thursday providing opportunities to pre-purchase parking passes for Saturday's game. Season-ticket holders should check their emails and order their parking passes soon to avoid lines for the H&PE Arena Garage off Blodgett Street.
If parking passes are available after the sale to season-ticket holders, those passes will go on sale Friday morning. Fans should stay tuned to Houston Men's Basketball social media sites @UHCougarMBK for more information.
This sale is the only opportunity fans will have to pre-purchase parking passes for Saturday's game. Once parking passes for H&PE Arena Garage are sold out, fans must use the FREE shuttle service to and from TDECU Stadium.
PARKING SHUTTLE
For fans who do not purchase parking passes, Houston Athletics will provide a FREE parking shuttle, beginning at 9:30 a.m., in Lot 12A by Gate 3 of TDECU Stadium.
Additional and larger passenger buses will pick up fans beginning at 9:30 a.m., Saturday. Following the game, shuttle service will return fans to Lot 12A.
CONCESSIONS
Additional concession staffing will be on site Saturday, and portable kiosks will be used to provide refreshments to fans before and during the game inside H&PE Arena.
50th ANNIVERSARY of the GAME of the CENTURY
Fans will not want to leave their seats at halftime as former student-athletes and staff members from the Game of the Century are recognized during a special ceremony.
On Saturday, Houston will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Game of the Century between the second-ranked Cougars and No. 1 UCLA. This historic event was played in front of nearly 53,000 fans inside the Houston Astrodome and millions watching nationwide on Jan. 20, 1968, with Houston claiming a 71-69 victory over the Bruins.
Conceived by Hall of Fame Head Coach Guy V. Lewis and Director of Athletics Harry Fouke, the Game of the Century revolutionized the way college basketball is viewed in large arenas and by television networks and paved the way for March Madness that all sports fans have come to love.
