Houston Hits the Road for Temple

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Cougar Women's Basketball team opens a 2-game road trip with a matchup against Temple, on Tuesday with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m., inside McGonigle Hall, in Philadelphia.

THE STARTING FIVE
Here are five names, numbers, news items and storylines you need to know about Tuesday's American Athletic Conference game at Temple.
Road Warriors â€" Houston will be in search of its third consecutive road win, when they travel to McGonigle Hall. The Cougars have not won three straight true road games since the 2010-11 season.
Stop The Streak â€" The Cougars will be in search of their first win in program history against the Owls, in a series that only dates back to the beginning of the American Athletic Conference.
From Deep â€" Houston has been lighting it up from beyond the 3-point line this season. The Cougars rank second in the conference and 37th in the nation with 138 made 3-pointers and have averaged 9.6 3-pointers made per game since entering conference play.
I'll Take That â€" Houston leads the American Athletic Conference in steals (228), steals per game (12.0) and turnovers forced (22.79) and ranks fifth, 15th and 11th in the nation, respectively.
That's Mine â€" Sophomore guard Angela Harris has been one of the most active defenders in the nation this season. Her 60 steals and 3.16 steals per game lead the American Conference and rank No. 9 and No. 15 in the nation, respectively.
SERIES vs. TEMPLE
The Cougars and Owls have met eight times previously on the hardwood since each team joined the American Athletic Conference. Temple owns the overall record in the series at 8-0, including the most recent meeting, a 67-58 decision in the American Athletic Conference Championship Quarterfinals on March 4, 2017.
Houston is 0-3 all-time when playing in Philadelphia.
ABOUT THE COUGARS
Houston is 14-5 (3-2 American) on the season after falling to No. 1 UConn 95-35 on Saturday, inside H&PE Arena.
Houston has been led on offense by four different players averaging double-figures per night. Sophomore Jasmyne Harris leads the squad with 20.1 points per game and became Houston's first player to score 30 or more points in multiple games in a season since Porsche Landry in 2012-13. Harris has scored 381 points this season, which ranks eighth in the NCAA. Sophomore Angela Harris adds 12.9 points per night, while Serithia Hawkins scores 11.8 per game and Dorian Branch averages 10.7 points per contest.
As a team, the Cougars are scoring 75.1 points per game while allowing opponents to score 71.6. Houston is shooting 41.4 percent from the field including 33.3 from beyond the 3-point line, while opponents are making 41.3 percent of their shots but only 26.5 percent from beyond the arc. Houston's 3-point percentage defense mark ranks No. 1 in the American Athletic Conference and 15th in the NCAA.
On the glass this season, Hawkins paces the Cougars with 8.1 rebounds per night, while Jasmyne Harris adds 5.8 boards per game.
Houston currently ranks first in the American Athletic Conference in steals (228), steals per game (12.0) and turnovers forced per game (22.79) and ranks fifth, 15th, and 11th in the nation, respectively, in each. SCOUTING THE OWLS
Temple enters Tuesday's contest with a 9-7 record and a 1-3 mark in American Athletic Conference play, after dropping back-to-back games to USF (89-73) and at Cincinnati (80-72) over the last week of play.
The Owls shoot 39.0 percent from the field and 29.7 percent from beyond the 3-point line, leading to 67.7 points per contest. Conversely, Temple allows its opponents to score 67.4 points a night, while letting them shoot 41.0 percent from the field and 28.0 percent from deep.
Temple has two players that average double figures in scoring, including a team-best 23.3 points per night from Tanaya Atkinson. Mia Davis ranks second on the Temple squad, scoring 11.3 points per contest.
Both Atkinson and Davis pace the Owls on the glass as well. Atkinson averages almost a double-double per night, pulling down 10.3 rebounds per game to go along with her scoring numbers, while Davis pulls down 8.9 boards per game.

The Cougars wrap their 2-game road trip with a jaunt to the east coast to meet East Carolina on Saturday. Tipoff against the Pirates is scheduled for 4 p.m., inside Minges Coliseum.
