LAS CRUCES, N.M â€" The Houston Soccer team earned its first road win under first-year head coach, Diego Bocanegra, Sunday afternoon at the NMSU Soccer Athletic Complex in a 3-1 decision over New Mexico State.
How It Happened
Once again, the Cougars came out the aggressor in the opening minutes of play and were able to maintain control of the ball for a large portion of the match. Houston capitalized on fouls made by the New Mexico State defense, outshooting the Aggies 5-4 in the first period.
New Mexico State managed to get ahead of the Houston defense, scoring inside the 23rd minute and holding on to take a 1-0 lead at the break.
Houston dialed up the intensity in the second period, outshooting NMSU 12-3. Senior, Hannah Dauzat scored her fourth goal of the season inside the 59th minute to tie the match 1-1. Dauzat connected with a cross from Madison Soileau, who recorded her third assists of the season.
Minutes later, Dauzat would line up for the Cougars sixth corner kick of the night. The senior would send the ball sailing into the right corner of the net, racking up her fifth goal of the season.
The Houston seniors continued to dazzle when 19 minutes later Selena Peters knocked in her second goal of the weekend and fourth of the season. Peters was met by a pass from fellow, senior Vanessa Almaguer who earned her first assist of the year.

- Rachel Estopare played every minute in goal for the Cougars, collecting one save.
Senior Leaders
- Dauzat scored a two goals for the Cougars, marking the second time in her career that she has has multiple goals in a game.
- Dauzat now has a team-high five goals this season and 10th of her career.
- Peters racked up her fourth goal of the season and 13th of her career. This is the second consecutive match that Peters has scored a goal.
One for the Road
- This win marks the Cougars first road win since Sept. 9, 2016 when Houston defeated Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
- This is the first road win under Head Coach Diego Bocanegra.
Freshman Debuts
- Olivia Lee made her first start this season, posting two shots with one on target.
- Mia Brascia made her third start this season, racking up two shots with one on target.
Other Notables
- Houston now leads the all-time series with New Mexico State 2-0-0.
- The Cougars improve to 4-3-1 on the season, heading into conference play.
- Houston now has 17 goals this season and is four from surpassing the total number of goals scored last season.
- Peters is now 10th all-time in points with 33 for her career.
- Soileau improves to second all-time in assists per game with 0.33.
- Peters had an excited weekend and her two goals have pushed her to seventh all-time in goals scored.

Houston will open conference play next weekend when it travels to Tulsa, for a Thursday night meeting before heading to Memphis to play the Tigers, Sunday afternoon.
