HOUSTON â€" The Houston Soccer team drops to 3-3-1 on the season after being dealt a 3-2 loss at New Mexico Friday evening.
How It Happened
Houston got out to a fast start at the UNM Soccer Complex, aggressively attacking the Lobo defense. The aggressiveness paid off inside the 21st minute when defender, Margo McEntire, notched her first goal of the season off a header. The assist was credited to Julissa DePaoli, her first of the season.
With a little under two minutes left in the opening frame, New Mexico's Jenna Killman answered with a shot from the top of the box tying the match 1-1.
New Mexico came out with some aggressiveness of its own to open the second period, maintaining possession for a large portion of the opening 15 minutes of play. Killman would find a header inside the 64th minute to take a 2-1 lead over Houston. A breakdown in the Houston defense would allow Killman to get ahead and score her second of the night to give the Lobos a 3-1 lead.
With just under 20 minutes to play Selena Peters would cut to the left wing, sending a ball into the upper right corner of the net for her third goal of the season, cutting the Lobo lead to one.
New Mexico would hold on for the final 20 minutes, improving to 4-3-0 on the season.
