CLEARWATER, Fla. â€" Houston Baseball earned multiple All-American Athletic Conference honors, led by Co-Player of the Year Jake Scheiner and Co-Pitcher of the Year Trey Cumbie, while three Cougars were named to the league's First Team and three to the Second Team, announced Monday afternoon.
Jake Scheiner becomes just the third Cougar in program history to be tabbed Conference Player of the Year and first since 1990. He joins Southwest Conference Players of the Year Keith Darter (1990) and Rayner Noble (1983) on this exclusive list.
Scheiner shared the award with Tulane's Hunter Williams.
Trey Cumbie becomes the fourth Cougar to be named Conference Pitcher of the Year in program history, but first since 2006. He joins C-USA Pitchers of the Year Brad Lincoln (2006), Brad Sullivan (2002) and Kyle Crowell (2000, 1999) representing the league's top honor on the pitching side.
Cumbie shared the award with UCF's Robby Howell.
For the first time in program history, Houston Baseball earned Player and Pitcher of the Year honors in the same season.
Representing Houston on the All-American Athletic Conference First Team was Scheiner, who was a unanimous selection as a utility player, Cumbie as a starting pitcher and junior Corey Julks as an outfielder.
Julks earns his second straight First Team All-Conference selection, while Cumbie and Scheiner earn their first.
Representing Houston on the All-American Athletic Conference Second Team was sophomore Mitch Ullom as a starting pitcher, sophomore Joe Davis as a designated hitter and junior Connor Wong at catcher.
This marks the second straight year that Wong and Davis represented the Cougars on an All-Conference Team, both earning a First Team nod a year ago with Davis also winning the league's Rookie of the Year honor.
