HOUSTON â€" University of Houston Men's Basketball stars Rob Gray and Damyean Dotson earned postseason awards Tuesday morning.
Both student-athletes were named to the All-American Athletic Conference First Team, making Houston the only school with two First-Team picks. Gray also was named to the United States Basketball Writers Association All-District VII Team.
The duo became the first Cougar teammates to be named to an All-Conference First Team since Carl Herrera and Craig Upchurch were selected by the Southwest Conference in 1990.
Gray has been a leading offensive force for the Cougars in 2016-17. The Forest City, N.C., native leads the Cougars and the American Athletic Conference with 20.3 points per game and looks to becomes Houston's first conference scoring champion since Aubrey Coleman in 2009-10.
Gray is the only Cougar to score at least 12 points in every game in which he has competed this season and leads the Cougars with 15 20-point games. With his basket midway through the second half in Sunday's 73-51 win over East Carolina, Gray joined the Cougars' 1,000-Point Club, becoming the 46th player in Houston history to reach that milestone.
This was his first American Athletic Conference postseason honor.

Dotson has been a steady performer during the last two years and is the only Cougar to start every game during that time. For the second straight year, he has established himself as one of the league's top all-around players and is one of only two to rank among The American's top-11 scoring leaders in both scoring and rebounding.
Dotson, who prepped at Houston's Jack Yates High School, is averaging 17.4 points per game to rank fourth in the league and stands 11th with 7.0 rebounds per contest.
In addition, he has drained at least one 3-pointer in all 30 games this season to set a Houston record. He extended that mark after sinking his only trey with 9.3 seconds remaining in Sunday's win over East Carolina.
Gray and Dotson were joined on The American First Team by Jalen Adams (UConn), Dedric Lawson (Memphis) and Semi Ojeleye (SMU). Sterling Brown (SMU), Troy Caupain (Cincinnati), Shake Milton (SMU), Ben Moore (SMU), B.J. Taylor (UCF) and Kyle Washington (Cincinnati) were named to the Second Team.
Gray also earned the first USBWA All-District VII honor of his career. He was joined on that squad by Jarrett Allen (Texas), Tyler Davis (Texas A&M), Keenan Evans (Texas Tech), Kevin Hervey (UT Arlington), Moses Kingsley (Arkansas), Manu Lecomte (Baylor), Johnathan Motley (Baylor) and Ojeleye.
Motley was recognized as the District VII Player of the Year, while SMU's Tim Jankovich was named District Coach of the Year.
