SINGLES
• The Cougars are coming off a 5-0 week in which they tied the program record set back in 2011 with five straight shutouts. Houston downed Georgetown, 10-0 in five innings, and swept doubleheaders from Prairie View A&M, 3-0 and 7-0, and Texas Southern, 1-0 and 6-0, to also run its win streak to eight games. For the week, the Cougars outscored their opponent 27-0.
• Last week, freshman Trystan Melancon posted a 3-0 record, issuing just five hits and two walks with 15 strikeouts across 14.0 innings pitched. Senior Shelby Miller led the team with a .538/.692/.563 slash, going 7-for-13 with one triple, five RBI, four runs scored and two walks. For their efforts, both Melancon and Miller were named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll, each their second such honors on the season.
• In game two of the doubleheader against Texas Southern on Sunday, Cougars Kaylin Crumpton, Mariah Garcia and Arielle James homered, marking the sixth multi-homer game of the season. Garcia's and James' homers also marked the first time the Cougars went back-to-back since Julana Shrum and Courtney Mica did so at Houston Baptist on March 3, 2015.
• On the season, Houston leads The American in batting average (.305) and on base percentage (.392), while ranking second in slugging percentage (.471), hits (174), home runs (20), walks (70), RBI (117) and runs scored (127).
• Three Cougars lead The American in separate hitting categories. Sophomore Maya Thomas leads the league with a .500 batting average, while freshman Arielle James leads the conference with 31 hits and ranks third with a .408 batting average. Senior Shelby Miller leads the American with 32 RBI and ranks second with eight home runs, ranking eighth in the NCAA in both categories.
• In the circle, sophomore Savannah Heebner leads the Houston staff with a 6-3 record and 2.18 ERA. Freshman Trystan Melancon is 6-5 on the season, while sophomore Presley Bell is 2-2 with one save. Freshman Hannah Wolfe has made seven appearances in relief.
• Houston leads Texas State, 14-8, in the all-time series and is 7-3 when hosting the Bobcats at Cougar Softball Stadium. The two teams are meeting for the first time since 2013.
