HOUSTON â€" As the University of Houston Men's Basketball program prepares to host its regular-season finale this weekend, fans should make plans for a busy schedule which includes Senior Day and ceremonies for the Final Game inside Hofheinz Pavilion.
The Cougars play host to American Athletic Conference rival East Carolina at 3 p.m., Sunday.
Prior to Sunday's game, Head Coach Kelvin Sampson and the team will recognize five student-athletes and four managers in a special Senior Day ceremony.
Forward Xavier Dupree, center Bertrand Nkali, center Kyle Meyer, forward Danrad Knowles and guard Damyean Dotson will be honored for their years of sacrifice and dedication, beginning at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, at midcourt inside Hofheinz Pavilion.
Sunday's game will be the final game inside historic Hofheinz Pavilion, which has seen more than 700 Houston Men's Basketball games played there. Following Sunday's game, the facility will undergo a $60 million renovation and be transformed into the Fertitta Center for the 2018-19 season.
The extensive renovations were made possible by a generous $20 million gift from UH System Board of Regents Chairman Tilman J. Fertitta and his family.
Prior to Sunday's game, Fred Hofheinz and Dene Hofheinz â€" children of the late Harris County Judge Roy Hofheinz, who contributed $1.5 million for the arena's construction and for whom the building is named â€" will present a game ball to start the game.
HALFTIME
At halftime, Fertitta, UH President Renu Khator and Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Hunter Yurachek will join others in a ceremonial groundbreaking at midcourt inside Hofheinz Pavilion.
CLOSING CEREMONY
Following the game, fans will want to stay in their seats for the Hofheinz Pavilion closing ceremony with the final shot being taken in the facility.
A current member of the Houston Men's Basketball team will make a basket on one end of the court with the ball being passed from the current team to a group of alumni. A Houston Basketball great will make the final basket in the arena's history.
Following those shots, Fertitta will take the ball and walk up a section of steps and out of the building. When the Cougars open the Fertitta Center during the 2018-19 season, that ball will be returned to the new facility.
