HOUSTON --With the 2017 college baseball season a week away, Houston Baseball's Fan Appreciation Day and Alumni Game appeared to be a huge hit, once again, as fans flocked to Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park on Saturday.
Nearly 70+ former players and families made it back to the annual event, while over 1,000 fans took in the sights and sounds of college baseball as it returned to the Cougars' home facility in preparation for Opening Weekend in one week.
The 2017 team earned a 4-1 win over the Alumni, highlighted by a two-run double from newcomer Rey Fuentes. After the Alumni team jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth, the 2017 Cougars evened the score thanks to a Joe Davis sacrifice fly.
Fuentes went on to plate two in the bottom of the sixth and Corey Julks followed with an RBI-triple to make it a 4-1 final. Several arms saw action on the mound, led by Preseason All-American Seth Romero. The southpaw was followed by sophomore Mitch Ullom, senior John King, sophomore Nolan Bond, freshman Brayson Hurdsman, junior Joey Pulido and freshman Carter Henry.
The Alumni saw current Minor League players Andrew Lantrip, Josh Vidales, Casey Grayson, Caleb Ramsey, and Nick Hernandez in action.
