RV Cougars Hit Trio of Homers on Saturday

Houston can’t contain late surge from Vaqueros as series moves even
HOUSTON – Despite a trio of home runs from the Cougar offense, the Houston Baseball team fell to UTRGV, 10-6, on Saturday afternoon at Schroeder Park.
Houston's (5-1) Chris Scinta (1-1) took the loss, ceding three runs on two hits and a walk while striking out two. Harrison Thayer (2-0) earned the win for UTRGV (2-4), tossing 3.1 innings where he allowed one run on three hits.

- Junior Tre Broussard has posted multiple RBIs in both games this weekend while sophomore Jackson LaLima has multiple hits in three of six games this year.Â
KEY INNINGS
1st | Houston jumped out to an early lead. Broussard lifted a two-run homer to right field to get the Cougars on the board. Junior Riley Jackson scored later in the inning on a catcher's interference/balk to give the home team a three-run edge.
4th | After adding a run in the third courtesy of a triple and advancement on a wild pitch from redshirt sophomore Xavier Perez, Houston added another to the board in the fourth with LaLima hitting his first career homer, a 355-foot shot to right field, to put Houston up by five.
7th | After scoring four runs between the fifth and sixth innings, the Vaqueros took the lead in the seventh. With two runners in scoring position, Rocco Garza Gongora singled home a run to keep a pair of runners on. After a wild pitch moved both into scoring position, a ground out and passed ball allowed both to cross, putting UTRGV up 7-5. Another run would score later in the inning to give UTRGV an 8-5 lead.
Perez cut into the deficit in the bottom of the inning, hitting his second homer of the year to straight-away center to push the score to 8-6. UTRGV added another two runs in the ninth to claim a 10-6 win.

Houston wraps up the series against UTRGV with a 1 p.m., Sunday, finale. The game will be streamed on ESPN+. Â
