HOUSTON -- Coming off a big season-opening win, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program returns to action at 1:30 p.m. (CST) Friday when it takes on Drexel in the First Round of the Paradise Jam inside the Vines Center.
Against the Cowboys, sophomore guard Armoni Brooks led all players with a career-high 22 points, missing only three of his 11 shots from the field. The Round Rock, Texas, native buried 5-of-8 from behind the 3-point line and grabbed a career-high six rebounds to lead Houston to an 81-53 win.
Senior guard and three-year letterman Wes VanBeck added 14 points with three 3-pointers, three rebounds and a blocked shot, while junior guard Corey Davis Jr. -- making his collegiate debut -- totaled 12 points with two rebounds and tied with junior point guard Galen Robinson Jr. for team-high honors with five assists.
REGULAR-SEASON TOURNAMENT HISTORY
• Cougars have posted a 121-66 all-time record in regular-season tournaments during the program's history.
• A year ago, Houston reeled off three straight wins to win the Gulf Coast Showcase championship... Was the program's first regular-season tournament title since Disneyland Freedom Bowl Classic on Dec. 6-7, 1991.
• Was the 30th regular-season tournament title in school history

• Drexel brings a 1-1 record into Friday's Paradise Jam First Round.
• Dragons claimed a 95-81 win over Arcadia University at home on Monday night.
• Against Arcadia, junior guard Tramaine Isabell came off the bench to post a game-high 22 points, thanks to 11-of-13 shooting from the free throw line... Also added six rebounds with five assists and three steals.
• Junior guard Troy Harper posted 17 points with a team-high eight rebounds, while guard Kurk Lee added 14 points with four rebounds... Guard Sammy Mojica totaled 13 points with four rebounds and five assists, and forward Austin Williams finished with 10 points, three rebounds and three blocks.
• This season, Isabell leads Drexel with 22.0 points and 5.0 assists per game... Mojica stands second with 15.0 points and 3.5 assists per game... Williams rank third with 14.0 points per game but leads the Dragons with 7.5 rebounds per contest... Harper and Lee are tied for fourth on the team with 12.5 points per game.
• Head Coach Zach Spiker is in his second season at Drexel and his ninth as a collegiate head coach.
• Has compiled a 112-136 record during his career... Is 10-24 during his tenure at Drexel.
• Spiker built a 111-135 record at Army West Point (2009-16). • Friday's game will be the first time that Spiker has faced Houston during his career.
• 2000 graduate of Ithaca.
UP NEXT
• Following Friday's First-Round game at the Paradise Jam, the Cougars will play winner-loser of Mercer/Liberty at 11 a.m., or 5 p.m., Saturday, depending on Friday's results.
• Tournament wraps up on Sunday.
• Cougars return to Houston to play host to UIW at 7 p.m., Nov. 25, inside H&PE Arena... Will be the start of a season-long, four-game homestand with games against New Orleans (Nov. 25), Arkansas (Dec. 2) and Fairfield (Dec. 6) following.
