HOUSTON - Houston Soccer Head Coach Diego Bocanegra announced Thursday the hiring of Assistant Coach Danesha Adams to the coaching staff for the upcoming 2017 season.
"I'm so excited to add Danesha to our staff," Bocanegra said. "With such an accomplished collegiate and professional playing career, she serves as a great role model to our women. She has the ability to draw from these experiences and relate them to our student athletes."
Adams comes to Houston after one season at Villanova. Prior to joining the Wildcats program, she completed a celebrated playing career.
"Danesha is a great mentor away from the field and understands the importance of developing the entire person as we build Champions for Life," Bocanegra said.
Collegiately, Adams led UCLA to four NCAA Final Four College Cups, was a three-time Pac-10 Conference First Team selection, two-time Herman Trophy finalist and was a finalist for the Pac-10 Player of the Year. She holds the school record for scoring during the NCAA Tournament with 41 points. She was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team in 2004 and 2005.
While playing at UCLA, Adams also represented the U.S., playing with the U-20 and U-23 Women's National Teams, earning her first cap with the Full Women's National Team in 2006. She made her debut against Chinese Taipei on Oct. 1, 2006, registering one assist. Adams was named U.S. Soccer's Young Female Athlete of the Year in 2006.
Adams represented the U.S. at the FIFA Under-20 World Championships in Russia and earned the tournament's Bronze Ball as the tournament's third most valuable player. She was also named to the FIFA All-Star Team.
Following her career at UCLA, Adams was selected as the sixth pick in the 2008 WPS Supplemental Draft and played professionally from 2009-2010 with the Chicago Red Stars, before joining the Philadelphia Independence from 2010-2012.
Following her time with the Independence, Adams played professionally in Sweden with Vittsjo GIK, before joining Sky Blue FC of the NWSL from 2013-2014, also spending time during that span on loan with Atasehir Belediyesi in Turkey. In 2014-2015, Adams joined the Washington Spirit of the NWSL and also spent time on loan with Apollon Ladies in Cyprus. Following a season with Medkila IL Harstad in Norway in 2015, Adams decided to retire from an illustrious playing career and transition into the coaching profession.
A native of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Adams earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from UCLA in sociology.
