Houston Heads to Mark Colligan Memorial

LINCOLN, Neb. â€" The Houston Cougar Men's and Women's Track & Field teams return to action at the Mark Colligan Memorial hosted by the University of Nebraska on Saturday. The action in Lincoln, Neb., is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Houston will have 11 competitors make their season debut at the Mark Colligan Memorial on Saturday, including five who will compete in their first ever meet with the Cougars. Selena Sierra, the 2016 American Athletic Conference champion in the 3000-meter Steeplechase, makes her return to the course in the 5,000-meters.
Eli Hall will make his Houston debut in the 60- and 200-meter dash on Saturday after transferring from Butler Community College. Hall was a 3-time NJCAA National Champion winning the indoor and outdoor 100-meter dash as well as the 4x100-meter championship on the outdoor circuit. On the women's side, Phedenia George-Moseby and Jazmyn Tilford-Rutherford will make their debuts in the triple jump.
The Cougars will also have 11 student-athletes in action who are ranked among the nation's best in their events. Senior Brian Barraza enters the weekend with the nation's fastest time in the mile, and he is scheduled to compete in that event as well as the 5,000-meters. In the hurdles, Amere Lattin enters with the No. 7 time in the nation, while Cameron Burrell has the No. 16 long jump in the NCAA. For the women, Tonye'cia Burks enters competition with the No. 22 triple jump mark among collegiate competitors, while Tori Williams and Sierra Smith will compete in the 200-meters with the No. 30 and No. 43 marks, respectively.

ABOUT THE 2016-17 COUGARS
The Houston men return 93 of their 152 points from last year's American Athletic Conference Indoor Championship team, including NCAA Runner-Up and American Champion in the 60-meter dash Cameron Burrell. Also returning for Houston will be thrower Felipe Valencia, who took the indoor championship in the shot put a year ago.
For the women, 17 freshmen will look to play their part in improving on the team's ninth-place finish from a year ago. A young squad, the women will have just six seniors for the indoor slate, including 2016 American Champion in the outdoor steeplechase Selena Sierra.

The Cougars return home for their first 2-day meet of the 2017 season, when they host the Houston Invitational on Jan. 27-28 inside the Yeoman Fieldhouse.
