Cougars Fall 62-48 against UCF

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Cougar Women's Basketball team dropped a 62-48 decision to UCF inside Hofheinz Pavilion on Wednesday. Freshman Jasmyne Harris notched her second double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Cougars raced out to a 6-0 lead to open the contest led by back-to-back 3-pointers from junior Mariah Mitchell. Houston shot 4-of-4 from the beyond the arc in the frame and finished 6-of-13 from the field to take the lead 17-15 at the first break.
Scoring was at a premium in the second quarter, with each of the defenses locking down in the game. The Cougars held the Knights to just four field goals in the quarter, while holding UCF to 44.0 percent from the field in the half. Houston entered the locker room up 26-25.
Houston struggled to find a rhythm coming out of the half. As a team, Houston shot just 15.4 percent in the third quarter and missed seven straight 3-point field goals after making their first four. The Knights outscored the Cougars 22-9 in the quarter to take a 47-35 lead into the final period.

TURNING POINT
The Knights went on a 6-0 run to take the lead at the beginning of the second half at 31-26, prompting a Cougar timeout. By the end of the quarter, UCF had extended its lead to 12, and Houston was never able to pull any closer.
TOP PERFORMERS
Houston: Houston's top performer was Harris, who finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds for her second career double-double. Harris now has double-figure scoring efforts in nine of her last 10 games, and entered play as the American Athletic Conference's leading scorer among freshmen. Freshman Angela Harris finished second on the team in scoring with 10 points for her sixth-career double-figure scoring game.
UCF: The Knights finished the contest with four players in double figures including 17 from Zykira Lewis to lead all scorers. Joslyn Massey finished with a double-double after collecting 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Aliyah Gregory and Korneila Wright each added 11.
