Bowen Hat Tricks on Senior Day

HOUSTON - Sophomore Desiree Bowen scored three goals to lead the Houston Soccer team to a victory on Senior Day Friday night. The Cougars' 3-2 win over New Mexico State brings them to 5-1-1 on the season, the program's best ever win percentage in non-conference play.
HAT TRICK BOWEN
Bowen got the Cougars on the board early, netting her first goal of the night in the third minute of play. Off an assist from junior Selena Peters, Bowen shot the ball to the middle of the net for her third goal of the season and counting. Seven minutes later, Bowen struck again. The Houston native, scored off a cross from senior Shayne Clewett to extend the Cougars lead, 2-0. Bowen completed her hat trick with 54 seconds left in the first half off an assist from senior Tiffani Echeverria. Bowen now leads the team with five goals on the season.
During the second half, the Aggies got some momentum closing in on the Cougars lead. New Mexico scored two goals, the first occurring at the 65th minute of play and their last goal at the 89th minute of play. The Houston defense kept New Mexico from getting any shot attempts the rest of the game to bring the Cougars to their fifth win of the season.

Freshman Nicole Young got her first collegiate start in goal Friday night. The American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, had seven saves in net while capturing her second win of the season.
A NEW PROGRAM BEST
The Cougars set a new program best with the victory over New Mexico State. The team set a new program best non-conference play winning percentage, 0.786, previously head by the 2010 squad, 0.722.
With the win,Houston now leads series against New Mexico State 1-0 with three goals for and two goals against.

The Cougars hit the road for their toughest away series of the season. Houston faces UCF in Orlando at 1 p.m. CT, Sept. 29 at UCF Soccer and Track Complex. The Cougars then travel to Tampa to face No. 17/19 USF at noon CT, Oct. 2.
