Cougars Host New Mexico State on Senior Day

HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Women's Soccer team wraps up the non-conference portion of its 2016 schedule when it plays host New Mexico State at 7 p.m., Friday. The match will also be Houston's Senior Day at the Carl Lewis Complex.

FOUR SENIORS
Head Coach Chris Pfau and the Cougars will honor four seniors - defenders Shayne Clewett and Courtney Dudley and midfielders Tiffani Echeverria and Megan Goh - for their careers at Houston. The pre-match ceremony is expected to begin around 6:45 p.m., Friday.
FOUR SHUTOUTS
The Cougars have four shutouts so far this season, tying the most non-conference shutouts in program history (2005 and 2010). Arizona transfer Rachel Estopare and freshman Nicole Young have 28 saves so far this season and have a goals against average of 0.64 while Houston's opponent average 1.77.
COUGARS OFFENSE
Five different Cougars have scored 11 goals for Houston this season. Junior Hannah Dauzat leads the program with four goals, while the 2015 leading scorer Selena Peters is second with three. Sophomore Desiree Bowen has two, and junior Vanessa Almaguer and freshman Brook Runyon have one each.
FRESH FACES
Freshman Nicole Young was named Goalkeeper of the Week by the America Athletic Conference on Monday after her impressive first outing between the posts against UTSA. The Pearland, Texas, native, captured a season high nine saves after replacing an injured Estopare. Young went to the first shutout of her collegiate career.
Against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, freshmen Brook Runyon and Kaitlyn Wild notched their first collegiate points. Runyon scored the game-winning goal at the 62-minute mark on a breakaway to the right post. The Sugar Land, Texas, native also tallied her first collegiate assist against the Islanders.
Runyon leads the freshmen with three points. Wild also tallied her first collegiate assist on Selena Peters' game tying goal. Two freshmen, Kaitlin Bub and Morgan Ford, have started for Houston this season.
THE USUAL SUSPECTS
Defenders Shayne Clewett, Courtney Dudley, Hayley Hubbard and Margo McEntire and forward Selena Peters have started all six games this season.
OPPONENT PREVIEW
New Mexico State (2-8)
Friday's match will be the first meeting between the two programs. The Aggies are coming off a 2-0 loss at home against Nevada. New Mexico State is 1-6 on the road this season.

The Cougars hit the road for their toughest away series of the season. Houston faces UCF in Orlando at 1 p.m. CT, Sept. 29 at UCF Soccer and Track Complex. The Cougars then travel to Tampa to face No. 17/19 USF at noon CT, Oct. 2.
