PREVIEW: Volleyball Heads to Rice Adidas Invite II

HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Volleyball team will conclude non-conference play participating in the Rice Adidas Invite II across Friday and Saturday inside Tudor Fieldhouse.
The Cougars (5-4) will face host Rice and fellow participants Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Yale in the two-day format. Houston will meet TAMU-CC in the tournament opener at 11 a.m. on Friday, before seeing Yale at 10 a.m. and Rice in the tournament finale at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

• Vice President Joe Biden will be speaking about the national Cancer Moonshot initiative at Rice on Friday. In conjunction with his speech on Autry Court, the Houston-TAMU-CC match has been moved to Fox Gymnasium, also inside Tudor Fieldhouse. • The Cougars' Saturday matches will take place on Autry Court. Tickets are $10 and will be good for the entire day.
• Houston leads the American Athletic Conference and ranks 17th in the country with 69 service aces and 21st with 1.86 aces per set.
• The Cougars are coming off a 1-2 showing in the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup. Houston fell 3-2 to San Jose State and 3-0 to Houston Baptist, before closing with a 3-2 comeback victory over Louisiana-Monroe in the tournament finale. Senior setter Keandra McCardell was named to the all-tournament team, averaging 9.15 assists and 2.38 digs per set with two double-doubles.
• The Cougars, playing their first road tournament since the HBU's Marriott Houston Westchase Invitational (Aug. 26-27), is 1-0 in road matches and 1-1 in neural site matches in 2016.
