Soccer Ends in Draw at Texas State

SAN MARCOS - Playing in its first overtime game of 2016, Houston Soccer finished in a 0-0, double-overtime draw at Texas State. Houston was led by sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Estopare, who recorded a season-high five saves and third consecutive shutout Sunday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Texas State attacked early with two shots in the third minute of play. The Bobcats seemed to have the momentum in the first half with 10 shots to the Cougars' three. Estopare nabbed three saves in the first period to keep a balanced first period.
In the second half, it was Houston's turn to take the momentum. The Cougars had five shots, with three on goal. Estopare captured two saves to help the Cougars extend play.
Houston tallied a season-high eight shots, led by junior Selena Peters' season-high four shots, three of which were on goal. Juniors Hannah Dauzat and Claire Salazar and sophomore Desiree Bowen each put up a shot on goal while junior Kelsey Thein also tallied a shot.
SHE'S A KEEPER!
Goalkeeper Estopare spent all 110 minutes between the posts and finished with a season-best five saves. The Bend, Ore., native recorded her third straight shutout. Estopare's record in goal this season improved to 2-0-1, while Texas State goalkeeper Katelyn Budde is now 2-1-1 in goal.
BY THE NUMBERS
The Cougars and Bobcats were relatively even on the stat sheet. Houston held the advantage in shots on goal, 6-5, but Texas State led in total shots, 13-8. The Cougars had six corner kicks while the Bobcats had none.
With the tie, the Cougars still own the all-time series record against the Bobcats, 7-2-1, with 14 goals for and 11 against.

The Cougars will host Samford for their first meeting in program history at 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 4. Every Sunday at the Carl Lewis Complex is Sundae Sunday with the first 100 UH students receiving free ice cream sundaes. Sunday also serves as Elementary School Day. Group rates will be offered for those who wear their elementary school t-shirts to the game.
