HOUSTON - Houston punter Logan Piper, who completed his playing career in December's Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl win over Florida State, was named to the National Football Foundation's (NFF) Hampshire Society Wednesday.
Membership is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers.
Piper entered the 2015 season having already completed all requirements for a Bachelor's of Business Administration in Accounting. He is currently a member of the Bauer College of Business and is on pace to on schedule to obtain an MS in Accountancy at the conclusion of the spring semester.
A two-year starter for Houston, Piper saw action in 26 career games after joining the program in 2013 after two years with the Houston Baseball program. The punter was a Campbell Trophy semifinalist, presented annually to the nation's top football scholar-athlete, in 2015 and was a member of the 2014 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team along with the 2013 and 2014 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Teams.
He finished his career with 107 punts for 4,275 yards, a career average of 40.0 yards per punt, placing 36 punts inside his opponents' 20-yard line with just seven touchbacks.
The NFF Hampshire Honor Society capitalizes on the NFF's current National Scholar-Athlete program by greatly expanding the number of scholar-athletes the NFF can recognize each year. Jon F. Hanson, the chairman and founder of The Hampshire Companies and NFF Chairman Emeritus, provided the endowment to launch the NFF Hampshire Honor Society in 2007. Celebrating its 10th year in 2016, the initiative has previously honored 5,752 student-athletes since its inception.
