Softball Splits With UCF Friday

HOUSTON â€" Houston Softball handed UCF its first American Athletic Conference loss of the season with a 7-0 victory before falling 8-0 in game two of the doubleheader.
The two will meet in a rubber match tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. for the series finale. Senior Julana Shrum's senior day is set for tomorrow. Saturday's game is also 2000's day. The first 200 fans into the stadium will receive a free UH trucker hat.
Senior Katie St. Pierre stole her 61st career stolen base to tie the school record set by All American Jessica Valis (2006-09).
The Cougar defense was excellent tonight as they stretched their errorless streak to three games. The Cougar infield turned two double plays against first-place UCF.
Senior Megan Noel was honored between games for her senior day. She went 2-for-5 on the day and scored a run for the Cougars. Defensively

Houston jumped out to a 2-0 lead when junior Shelby Miller roped a two-run home run, marking her first of the season and third of her career.
From there, it was two scoreless frames until the Cougars extended their lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. With two runners on and one out, freshman Elise LeBeouf knocked in her 31st RBI with a double to left center. Senior Courtney Klingler followed with a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring another run for the Cougars.
An inning later, Houston continued with its bats and plated three more runs to take a 7-0 lead. Three straight singles loaded the bases before Brooke Vannoy drove in a run on a fielder's choice to open the Cougars' rally. Back-to-back illegal pitches by UCF's Jamie Ujvari brought in two more runs for UH.
Freshman RHP Savannah Heebner (5-6) pitched her second complete game shutout of her career. She allowed just four hits while striking out five.
UCF 8, HOUSTON 0
The Knights took a 2-0 lead in game two with a two-run home run by Cassady Brewer.
Houston held UCF scoreless for three more innings until the knights added another run in the top of the sixth.
UCF posted five more runs to the board in the top of the seventh off six hits to seal the win.
Freshman RHP Presley Bell (4-7) took the loss for the Cougars. She pitched 4.2 innings, allowed two earned runs and struck out one.
