HOUSTON -- Four Cougars went 2-for-4 against the UCF pitching staff, but Houston Softball couldn't hang on as they fell 8-3 in the series finale Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Savannah Heebner led the Cougars as she went 2-for-2 with a double. Elise LeBeouf also had two doubles on the day.
Senior Katie St. Pierre recorded her 13th multi-hit game of the year with two base hits.
UCF jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first off a two-run home run by Jessica Ujvari. A third run came across the plate after a Cougar error.
Houston responded in the bottom half of the inning with a leadoff base hit by St. Pierre followed by a double from Kaylin Crumpton. She advanced to third on an overthrow by UCF's centerfielder before scoring on a wild pitch to cut into the Knights lead 3-2.
The Knights added another run in the top of the third off a leadoff home run by Courtney Rotton. UCF took a 5-2 lead two innings later off an RBI single into center.
The Cougars cut UCF's lead down to 5-3 when LeBeouf knocked a leadoff double before Courtney Klingler was hit by a pitch for the 14th time this season to put runners on first and second. Freshman Maya Thomas laid down a bunt single to load the bases when Heebner hit an RBI single into left, plating LeBeouf.
From there, UCF added three more runs in the next two innings to seal the 8-3 win and the series win over Houston.
Senior Julana Shrum (7-8) took the loss for the Cougars. She pitched 4.1 innings allowed four earned runs, and two walks.
