Cougars Conclude Season at NCAA Zone Competition

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The University of Houston diving team concluded it's run at the NCAA Zone D Championships Tuesday with the 3-meter springboard event. Sophomore Micaela Bouter led Houston with an 11th-place finish, just two spots outside of qualifications for the NCAA Championships.
Bouter finished the day with a score of 598.60 after rallying during finals to climb from 14th in prelims. The Johannesburg, South Africa native battled all six rounds of finals averaging a score of 50.85 per round. Bouter's best dive came in her third dive of the day, the forward 3 ½ somersault tuck, a difficulty degree of 2.8.
The 2016 American Most Outstanding Diver Danielle Shedd made finals for the second day in a row after finishing prelims with a score of 278.85. The senior's best dive came in her second dive, the inward 2 ½ somersault pike, for which she earned a 57.00. Shedd ended the competition with a total score of 581.90 to place 15th overall.
Bouter and Shedd also made finals in the 1-meter Monday night. The Cougars swept conference diving events in February and diving head coach Bob Gunter was named Co-Diving Coach of the Year.
