Softball Sweeps Lipscomb to Claim Series

HOUSTON â€" An eight-run, fifth inning led Houston Softball to its sixth run-rule win of the season as the Cougars swept Lipscomb Saturday afternoon.
Houston (11-10) claimed the series win over the Lady Bison (11-12) with the two wins, 4-1 and 8-0 in five innings.
Senior centerfielder Katie St. Pierre went 4-for-5 in the two games and reached base in all four at bats during game one. With her two stolen bases today, the senior now has 55 in her career â€" just six shy of the school record.
The team returns to Cougar Softball Stadium for the final game of the series tomorrow at noon.
HOUSTON 4, LIPSCOMB 1
Houston got the bats going early as St. Pierre knocked a single over the third baseman's head. The senior advanced to second on a Lipscomb wild pitch and moved to third as Brooke Vannoy fouled out to the second baseman. A passed ball by the Bison's catcher scored St. Pierre for the Cougars first run of the game.
Later in the bottom of the fourth, sophomore Kaylin Crumpton hit an RBI single into left field before Vannoy hit an infield single to score another run for the Cougars. Houston took a 4-0 lead with another RBI single from freshman Elise LeBeouf.
Lipscomb went on to score a run late in the top of the seventh, but Miller shut them down.
Junior RHP Shelby Miller (3-0) threw her second complete game of the season. She allowed only one earned run off six hits while striking out two.
HOUSTON 8, LIPSCOMB 0
Both teams were scoreless for the first five innings until the Cougars made an eight-run rally in the bottom half to seal the run-rule win.
Freshman catcher Breelyn Thames smacked a one-out single into right field before Crumpton crushed her second career home run over the left field fence to plate the Cougars' first two runs of the inning. St. Pierre kept the bats rolling with a single through the right side and stole second for her 10th stolen base of the season and 55th of her career.
With runners on second and third it was LeBeouf again who hit a 2-RBI double into right center, pushing the Cougars lead to 4-0. Senior Courtney Klingler stepped up to the plate with one out an LeBeouf sitting on second when she blasted her fourth home run of the season and 11th of her UH career to plate two more runs for Houston.
Batting through the order, Thames was at bat once again with runners on second and third with two outs. The 0-2 pitch came in and she knocked it into right center for the walk-off win, scoring the two runners and sealing the 8-0 win for the Cougars.
Senior LHP Julana Shrum (3-3) threw her 29th career complete game and sixth shutout of her career. She only allowed three hits and struck out two in the 5.0 innings pitched.
