Houston Softball Splits on Day Two

HOUSTON â€" Houston Softball picked up another run rule victory as the Cougars split day two of the Hilton Houston Plaza Invitational on Saturday.
Houston (6-3) dropped in a run rule to Ball State before beating Toledo, 8-0, for the Cougars second run rule win of the weekend.
Freshman right fielder Elise LeBeouf was on fire as she went 2-for-3 with another home run and five RBIs.
UH returns to Cougar Softball Stadium for the final day of the tournament as the Cougars host No. 24 Texas at 2 p.m. tomorrow.
Ball State 10, Houston 0 â€" 5 inn.
Ball State jumped out to a 5-0 lead after just three innings. The Cardinals scored on several key RBI doubles and a triple and held the Cougars scoreless through five innings.
Back-to-back four-run innings sealed the win for the Cardinals. In the top of the fourth, Ball State's Amanda Arnett homered to deep centerfield.
Freshman RHP Savannah Heebner (2-1) took the loss for the Cougars. She pitched 2.1 innings and gave up five runs while striking out two. Senior LHP Julana Shrum came in relief and pitched 2.2 innings only giving up 2 earned runs and striking out two.
Houston 8, Toledo 0 â€" 5 inn.
Houston opened up early with a three-run inning sparked by a leadoff double from senior Katie St. Pierre.
With one out, LeBeouf stepped up to the plate and smashed a two-run bomb over the right field fence for her third home run of the season.
Another three-run inning during the bottom of the second put Houston up 6-0 over the Rockets. LeBeouf came in the clutch once again as she drove in two runs on a double to the outfield wall. A wild pitch by the Rockets pitcher scored the Cougars sixth run of the night.
Heading into the bottom of the fifth, Houston had a 6-0 lead on Toledo. Three straight walks scored the Cougars final two runs of the night.
Freshman RHP Presley Bell (2-1) picked up her second win of the season as she pitched her second complete game shutout of the year. In the 8-0 win, she allowed only three hits and struck out a season best five batters.
