Cougars Fall to the Aggies 6-1

College Station, Texas â€" The Houston Cougar women's tennis team fell 6-1 to the No. 16 Texas A&M Aggies after making the short trip to College Station, Texas on Saturday.
The Aggies jumped ahead in the match by winning the doubles point with victories on courts one and three. Mina Markovic and Marnie Stokes fell 3-6 to Saska Gavrilovska and Domenica Gonzalez, followed by Rocio Martin and Despoina Vogasari being defeated 2-6 by Eva Paalma and Rachel Pierson. Maria Cardenas and Tina Rupert were down 2-5 against No. 45 Rutuja Bhosale and Anna Mamalat when the doubles competition ended.
Despite losing the doubles point, the Cougars put up a fight in singles going into a tiebreaker on three courts. Martin put the Cougars in the win column when she defeated Paalma 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) on court four. Court one and three also ended in tiebreakers, with No. 96 Vogasari falling to No. 54 Saska Gavrilovska 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7) and Markovic being defeated by Bhosale 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (12-10).
Stokes was the first to finish in the singles competition, falling to Ines Deheza 0-6, 1-6. The Stokes match was quickly followed by Cardenas falling to Gonzales on court five 2-6, 0-6 and Rupert being defeated by Pierson 4-6, 1-6 on court two.
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars will return home to prepare for their first double header of the season at John E. Hoff Courts. Houston will host Prairie View A&M and Southern University on Saturday, Feb. 20. The first match of the day is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., with the second match following closely after at 3 p.m.

Gifts to the Center Court Club provide financial support directly to the University of Houston Tennis program for needs beyond the program's operating budget. Revenue generated from the Center Court Club is used at the discretion of the Head Coach for program enhancements. Membership in the Center Court Club is annual and requires a minimum $100 gift.

For a minimum gift of $1,000, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket and a lesson from the coach.
GRAND SLAM
For a minimum gift of $2,500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket, a lesson from the coach and a group lesson from the coaching staff.
